Compound Studio

Thanks to Jimmy Hoyson (engineer) and Chris Goldsmith (producer) for bringing Mavis and Yvonne Staples to the Compound. Jimmy, a Capitol Studio alumni, has talked about coming to the Compound for some time. The opportunity arose when Charlie Musselwhite asked Mavis to sing on his new record that Chris is producing (with local heroes John Bazz and Stephen Hodges as the rhythm section). Mavis was coming to Long Beach for the Blues Festival and it all came together wonderfully. What a ray of sunshine! Both Mavis and Yvonne Staples were a joy to be around and don’t get me going on the that voice! Yes folks there is a reason why she is a National Treasure. Truly Humbled.
